Strong consumer spending on new fuel-efficient and electric cars is expected to help overall energy efficiency-related investment rise by 16% in 2022, to just over USD 560 billion. Under currently stated policies, this figure is set to increase a further 50% to almost USD 840 billion per year from 2026 to 2030.
Energy efficiency statistics
Primary energy consumption peaked in 2006 and in 2022 it was 16.8 % lower than the peak value. The gap between the actual level of primary energy consumption and the target level set for 2030 was 52.3 % in 2006. In 2020 this gap decreased to 24.5 %, subsequently increasing to 32.1 % in 2021.
